Some PC users seem to prefer Pegasus for email, like Eudora Light, it's free. Unlike Eudora, Pegasus also gives you LAN (local area network) email on Novell networks.

WinZip seems to be THE decompression decoder of choice for windows users, who often post zip archives on the net. Winzip should also allow you to decode Mac-style binhex (.hqx) files
Alternatively you could get Alladin's Stuffit Expander which supports all the files WinZip does plus Alladin's own .sit files.
Get your free Acrobat Reader it will useful to retrieve a lot of texts on the web (like the New York Times)
